In a September 4 assembly with museum Director Amy Hau and human sources consultant Eric Perry, Abbott, Cappellini, and Chen were knowledgeable they would be sent home without pay for violating the policy. When Cappellini requested whether check “cultural clothes” have been also banned, Hau defined that “the keffiyeh can also be a political symbol, not just cultural,” in accordance with Hyperallergic’s report. A museum spokesperson later confirmed to Haaretz that they had been subsequently laid off.
